Bambusa utuldoides viridii vittata (China Gold Bamboo)
Attractive, short (6m) and upright, just what I like!
Similar in habit to gracilis however, the clump is a little more ‘open’ and has incredible lemon yellow canes with striking green stripes. Cold dosent worry it too much, fast growing, commands attention from your guests.
200mm pot $60 / 300mm $150
/ 45L $250
Pogonatherum paniceum (dwarf panda bamboo)
People cant take their eyes off this one here, one of the biggest sellers! gets only 350mm high x 350mm wide and adds a lush bright green splash to your garden.
Very fine delicate leaves with a good round shape, it is a really good grower, likes a bit of water but can tolerate some dry.
You can submerge it as a water plant. Makes a great coloured asian hedge instead of using buxus or hebe. -4 celcius
140mm $10 / 200mm $15
Dendrocalumus minor var 'amoenus' (White ghost bamboo)
A very attractive bamboo to 8m forming from a tight, tall clump with incredible white canes and large leaves (You have to see it to believe it!).
A great garden feature with a long growing season that doesn’t mind those cold westerly winds and a harsh environment. My favourite!
200mm $45 / 25L $65
/ 45L $150
Bambusa Textilis 'Fasca (Dark weavers bamboo)
This is the bigger brother of gracilis(Slender weavers bamboo).
The leaves are just as beautiful as gracilis, but fasca will reach up to 2-3 metres taller (9m) and just a little bigger at the ground.
The canes are very dark green in colour, with no white powder on them.
Cane wall thickness is twice that of gracilis, making fasca better for a tall strong screen or windbreak
Extremely cold hardy (-9 celcius), quick growing and disease resistant.
200mm $45 / 300mm $80 / 45L $160
Drepanostachyum Khasianum (Khasia Bamboo)
One of my favorites due to its landscaping qualities.
Being short (3-4m tall) and much tougher than the other himalayan bamboos this will handle midday sun and wind exposure in Temperate regions.
I have trailed and proven this one, nice and strait, Lush green all year even through winter.
But its true quality is its canes boasting thin, green canes covered in white powder with pronounced purple shading and white rings
around each node. Very colourful and very rare!
200mm pot $45 300mm $90 45L (Large advanced) $180
Bambusa Multiplex 'Alphonse Karr'
Beautiful hedge or feature hot pink shoots turn gold with bright green leaves year round. As it is a multiplex, it is not as tall and strait as Textilis but is still a great hedge plant.
Growing anywhere up to 7 meters if untouched, it will happily be cut off to hedge size and will take strong cold winds and even salty air.

This striking plant from Thailand looks like bamboo but it's actually a perennial grass. Grows beautifully in a pot ,looks great near water features and handles the full sun/shade.

Phylostachys 'nigra' (running black bamboo)
This is the only running plant we keep and only do so because of its huge demand in sydney. Growing to 4 metres tall if not trimmed, this plant is invasive and not reccomended for planting in the ground unless well contained.
But in pots or planters it looks amazing!
It will easily handle full sun, wind, even snow on it!
Leaves will brown on the ends if it dries out even once so must be irrigated during dry periods.

This plant as a superb windbreak to protect crops and property, although this seems a bit of a waste as it is a stunning plant which can highlight any garden as a feature or mass planting.

If you have a larger garden and a want a very special ornamental plant, chungi is a real eye opener. It is a more open plant with a larger gap between the canes(Grove affect), reaching 8m tall. It has a bright white powder covering the culms which looks almost electric. Also has a very distictive rigid, dark green tropical looking leaf. Cold tolerant and easy to look after.

Dendrocalumus Asper 'betung hitam' (Thai Black Asper Bamboo)
I along with many other friends have come to the conclusion, that 'Hitam' may be "the best looking plant in the world".

Biggest black bamboo in the world with beautiful patch white powder on each node.
Shoots are very delicious to eat and quite valuable, if you can bring yourself to cut one off i couldnt do it they look amazing!
